Online backup of tablespaces

Hi,

    Can anyone tell me if it's feasible to do on-line backups of tablespaces if the tablespace sizes are 34 Gb and 27 GB respectively (I'm using a DEC Alpha running VMS 7.1 and Oracle 7.3.2.......) Would it be a better idea to have multiple sets of tables on multiple tablespaces (say 3 Gb each) ??
