ORACLE vs INFORMIX vs MS SQL SERVER

I got the task to choose the database for my company (Polish Information Agency). The main task of the database would be: manage of 1000000 scanned pictures (high resolution each +-30 MB) public data on line on web site
manage data of text type
and so on

The question is simple:

For and against ORACLE INFORMIX and MS SQL Server and which software platform (operation systems) UNIX, NT Server or Novell IntranetWare 5.0 assuming environment consisting of one strong server and several group servers. Bonus question: does exist SQL Server on UNIX or Novell platform
