In the meantime the problem is more obvious: The 7.3 DB on the Sun war installed without NLS functionality. Therefore my target is now an 8-bit export of these data (followed by a import into a correctly installed database).

My tests show: The exp-Output on the SUN contains 8-bit data if and only if NLS_LANG is unset, but input into a NLS-able database is 7-bit, since exp seems to note the character set in the export file.

Are there any techniques to avoid this?
