Why not change the instance name instead?

Stop database.
Set ORACLE_SID to new a new value.
Rename init<OLD_SID>.ora to init<NEW_SID> and restart database ifile in the new initfile still refers to the config<SID>.ora file where

the db_name is still set to the old ORACLE_SID.
