Debian is the organization whose free software guidelines were the starting point for the definition of "Open Source". Debian was at one time subsidized by the Free Software Foundation. (Flame bait: Red Hat is the Windows 95 of the Linux world.)

2.0.35. I even compiled a custom version to meet the kernel parameters requirements in the docs (SHMMAX and all that).

Yes, have that. Came with Debian 2.0.

The only really weird thing about this system (other than it running Debian and not Red Hat) is that it's a Nexgen Nx586 Pf110, not a Pentium (the Nx586 is only i386 compatible).
