Nebie - ORA-01000maximum open cursors exceeded

Our DBA had left and I need to go and correct this error. We are using 7.34 of Oracle on an HP UX box.

One of the developers is experiencing the following error. ORA-01000 maximum open cursors exceeded

What is the command to determine how many cursors are set? What is the max value?
Do I need to set this up in the initxxx.ora file?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
