For example, Oracle8i includes a database-resident Java Virtual Machine for storing and executing Java code on a server. The product also includes a native Java compiler and a feature called Internet File System (IFS), which lets a user store, query, and manage relational and nonrelational data. IFS will store 164 data types (from spreadsheets to Web pages, e-mail, and graphics). The file system is what moves the database toward the arena typically occupied by operating systems.
