Does your software have an option that lets you specify  whether or not to overwrite existing files? If your problem is specifically recovering deleted files, then if you DID NOT OVERWRITE existing files, only files that were deleted and no longer exist would be recovered. This of course would not work for recovering existing but corrupted files.
