Hi, First off, I understand your frustration. I've installed 7.3.4.0.1 Enterprise on solaris 2.6 release 5/98 countless of times (without any patches or problems). Anyway, two weeks ago I installed 7.3.4.0.0 Enterprise on Solaris 2.6 release 5/98 and ran into alot of problems. For the life of me, I couldn't make it install, it kept bombing out on me, I contacted Oracle and they said it was a bug and I should apply some patch. I ended up just installing 7.3.4.0.1 and everything worked out fine. So if you have 7.3.4.0.0, consider using 7.3.4.0.1. Another thing, check etc/system to see if you spelt the settings right. Double and triple check them. Also, don't forget to reboot the server after changing the values. Also, can you do an echo $ORACLE_HOME and get the value you want? What I do, is this: ORACLE_BASE=/usr/local/oracle; export

Send me a copy of your etc/system file and I'll double check it for you. The error you have is the result of this file being to small. (SHMAX setting).

Good Luck
