I got the Oracle 8.0.5 for Linux prerelease today..a few quick notes

  1. install goes smoothly (using redhat 5.1 based Linux)
  2. rdbms works fine as does net8 .. can connect remotely to and from it

so far, great. however, in this prerelease

3) OCI support incomplete..for example no oracle.mk, oratypes.h, etc (if one takes that group of *.h files from another platform, one can get various oracle-www gateway stuff to compile (eg. DBD-Oracle, MOWI2) but they dump core when run).
so until there's a full OCI development env, one can't do www-based development with Oracle on Linux. hopefully that will be fixed soon
