Thanks, Piotr, but this didn't work. The documentation says, the charset parameter is for release 6 export files only, and it's use is not recommended in Ora 7. (And I tried it, but it did not make any difference.)

Yes, it is possible to store and retrieve German characters in a US7ASCII database. I'm a bit surprised too.
