Storing MS Word docs and MS Excel spreadsheets in the O8 database

I am looking at invoking word/excel from a FORMS 5 app connected to an Oracle database. Thinking of using the nfile datatype, in the tabe, for storing pointers to such docs/spreadsheets. Has anyone done this? Any performance problems?
