"instead of" db trigger

Hi

We are using Oracle8 WG Server and Oracle8 Personal Oracle. We have been informed by our Oracle support that "instead of" database trigger is only supported in Oracle 8 Enterprise Edition. Since we base our
application on stand alone notebooks licencing Oracle Enterprise Edition for each particular notebook is out of question.

Can anyone help with regards to upgrading/patching/whatever Oracle 8 WG & Personal Oracle 8 with this particular trigger?

Is there a way to legally (in technical terms) write a kind of plug-in trigger in C++ or similar language/tool (we're basing our app. on WinNT platform)?

Any help will be appreciated. This feature is highly important to make read and write to database views transparent and compliant.

If someone has already solved this problem (plug-in or similar stuff) we are interested in purchasing this add-on feature.
