optimal RAID configuration

I'm new to using RAID arrays with Oracle. I have been told that it is best to not use RAID 5, but rather RAID 0 or 1 or 0+1.

Can someone both verify this for me, and explain why this is so?

Oracle 8.04 on Win NT4.0, SP3
3 9Gig drives in RAID array

I will not have many concurrent users, and I will be mostly doing reads, with very complex queries. Best performance times for these queries is what I'm after. Writes to the database will not be as frequent, and not complex, though they may be sizeable.

Thanks in advance - please CC me as I don't read the group diligently.
