What disk array are you using? Advice for improving performance on RAID is very hw dependent. For example, I've never gotten satifactory RAID 5 performance on a DG Clarion or a HP Nike array (same thing), they just don't have enough controller cache to keep up with the writes on OLTP. Maybe you could post your I/O path config, and some more details on the array itself. Many arrays even have thier write cache disabled by default.
