        Nothing to do with performance, but if you plan to have a good sleep without remorse, and if reliability is important to you, avoid NT at all costs! I was a NT admirer until I got to work with it; then I was so much frightened I converted to Unix (I was a mainframe guy before all this).

        Also, do not forget Unix includes for free many thing which you will have to pay in NT, such as scripting languages. Also I don't know about HP-UX, but with Sun Solaris I get unlimited users at any given machine, while NT needs a license to each *possible* user -- not concurrent. That makes it expensive.

        Summing up, if NT is cheaper to purchase, Unix is cheaper to add users and maitain in the long run. And it's easier on your mental health.
