There has been known problems with SQL*Net versions when connecting to the database on AIX. We have 6 instances in 7.2.3, 7.3.2 and 7.3.4, 2 versions of SQL*Net. Also we have 2 versions of developer2000. All this mix has become a headache for us to maintain. Once we had a similar problem like you had. we changed the SQL*Net version (we did a trial and error approach) and finally one of the versions of SQL*Net clicked and we dont have the problem now.
