Writing on RAID 5 is a little slower.

But you have to remember, much of database access is querying. So that's a reading function. Reading on RAID 5 is much faster.

Ask yourself: When have you ever heard of a user complaining that writing a piece of information to the database takes too long?

Ask youself another: How many times to users complain that running a report or query is soooo slowwww?

All I'm saying is that it's a trade off: Read faster, write a little slower.

But remember, the biggest benefit of RAID 5 is fault tolerance. Read performance is a secondary gain. You want to be able to protect your data. Received on Fri Jul 31 1998 - 08:56:43 CDT
