In addition to the other answers, here are my clues:
- Don't use 16-bit ODBC, but use 32 bits ODBC-drivers for WIN'95.
(available at www.oracle.com)
- look at the TCP/IP configuration on the SUN-server
- start the listener process on the SUN (lsnrctl start)
assuming that you have a correct listener.ora on the server
- create or edit the TNSNAMES.ORA in the orawin95/network/admin directory
on your client
if you don't know the syntax use SQL*NET Easy config
(or in the directory to which the registry entry TNS_ADMIN points)
- If DNS is working fine, you can use the servers-name, otherwise try the
IP-adress of the sun
- test it with TNSPING <database>
- if you get a response, then try to configure an ODBC-connection
