If you have 'true color' set for your monitor display you might try
setting it down to 16M. I know that with Personal Oracle the Net8 (and
Patch Assistant) can cause a similar problem wherein Java.exe (and some
other process which slips my mind) will show up, but no Net8 windows pops
up. Run it under 16M colors and it works fine. Why that should affect
Oracle, I don't know, but it can.
