You don't say what platform your on, but we had problem of the system freezing and we could not figure it out. We were on a Sun Solaris 2.5 Os and what we found was sometimes a process would start to eat up the swap space and once it was gone the system would freeze. Oracle had a patch and we upgraded to 2.5.1 of the Os. This seemed to work. I hope this helps.
