You can use either one, the export/import allows you to change the blocksize if you want, and has the side-effect of defragmenting the db. As long as you are doing something this major, it doesn't hurt much to check that the database sizing and such haven't changed since the db was originally created.

You should be able to go direct. Check your install guide.

I think so, provided you haven't added anything dependent on post-7.0 features. Never tried it, personally. I seemed to have a lot of problems with exp in early 7, so I developed the habit of keeping tables in ASCII.
