two users differ in perf. for same query

One user has granted select on all his tables to the other. The real owner has 10x faster performance on a complex join, than does the grantee. Both have the same TEMP tablespace ( I mean really the same!) and same ARRAYSIZE, MAXDATA in their sqlplus environment. It's the same machine and disk layout for both. Does this ring a bell with anybody?
