Hi-
I just downloaded Personal Oracle 8 from their site; I know absolutely nothing about DB's or SQL, but this is how I plan to begin learning. I want to start with command line, but I can't seem to get into anything without username and password. I went into the GUI (Navigator, I believe) and established a password for SYS, but when I try to get into SQL8 a host string is required.

An earlier message indicated I could find the "Instance Manager" for this, and my brother, a UNIX head who works for Oracle but knows nothing about it, says that if I can find the instance, I'll know the host string. HELP!!

Also, just so I can reveal my true idiocy and insecurity: Once I get this host string, or instance or whatever, I can get into SQL with SYS as username, the password I set up in navigator (or change_on_install, whichever works)...right?

Thanks for taking the time-
