Hi,

I am in the process of trying out Oracle's Personal Oracle Lite ver. 3.0 for a laptop solution. I have a VB5 application using Microsoft's ADO (ActiveX Data Objects) to connect to an Oracle8 database running on a server in a LAN - working fine.

I am now looking into installing a local copy of this database on a laptop using Personal Oracle Lite ver. 3.0 as the DB product on the laptop.

There are two things I want to be able to do:

  1. Replicate both ways between the central Oracle DB and the Personal Oracle Lite database
  2. Be able to access the Personal Oracle Lite database from my existing VB5 application (using ADO) when not connected to the network.

I do not think 1) is a problem, using the Personal Oracle Lite Navigator tool it is easy to do create connections between the two databases and also copy data back and forth.

Point 2) has proved to be a problem as I either get ODBC errors or Personal Oracle lite errors.... Has anybody had any experience with this or does anyone have any hints in regards how to do this? The problem may be twofold:

  1. I may be using the wrong syntax (but what is the right syntax??)
  2. Personal Oracle Lite does not support connections using ADO (I have done some preliminary testing using Personal Oracle, and it seems to work fine, though...)

Any help/response would be highly appreciated!!

Thanks!
