This could happen if your system was very low on memory, I would expect this if your system had 32MB or possibly 48MB of RAM, but probably not if it had more...

Also, with the long connects what is happening on the Server, are the disks thrashing, is the NIC handling a large amount of data, is the CPU running high for the connect time ?

Perhaps with some more info we could crack this one...

BTW , are you sure you are running NT 3.0 (SP 3)...Sounds a little too old for 7.3.3 - read the minimum requirements for NT on the box - I dont have it in front of me but I am sure it is NT 4.0 (SP3) minimum...could be wrong though.
