Hi All

I've run both and haven't had any problems with them. The place I work is going to NT for the majority of our Oracle databases for one reason. IT IS CHEAPER. It is a lot easier to support NT then to support Solaris. We have lots of NT expertise because it is our network file server and desktop standard. We do not have the same level of UNIX expertise.

I also believe that the intel platform is the better bet in the long run.

On the flip side....

I installed Solaris for x86 and NT on identical hardware. I then ran Oracle on both boxes with the database configured the same for SGA and datafiles. During testing the Solaris box performance was close to twice that of the NT box.

Management response was "So what NT is still cheaper to support, Just buy faster hardware "

This was on NT 3.5.1 but I don't think the results would be a whole lot different if I tried it again.
