You are definitely correct, its not a good idea to switch ODBC drivers in mid development. We are currently using Intersolv's 32bit ODBC driver (version 2.5). There is a later version but it does seem to have a few problems in a NT environment.
From my experience none of these ODBC drivers are the same or work at all well, but I do think intersolvs is the lesser evil?
