Certainly would vouch for it...A lot of our apps contains history data we used to archive with a lovely process of:

• unload old data to file (easy and quick)
• delete old data (easy and incredibly slow)
• reorg table to reclaim free space (easy but no 24x7 !!!)

Now its just (on 7.3.3)

- add new partition table
- recreate partition view 
- drop old partition
