Er, it creates a 'simple database just fine' would be a more appropriate quote. :-)

The beauty of a 'scripted' approach is that you can create a complex database layout (multi tablespaces, mirrored bits, multiple drive spindles, etc) much more quickly and efficiently. You also then have a script that can be used if you want to do a database rebuild (i.e., maybe trying a new block size, or setting up a development, production or test copy of an existing database, or moving servers).
