"orphaned" sessions

I'm running 8.0.4 on NT 4.0. I have a web based app hitting the DB. When users disconnect, the sessions stay active, I see the the same behaviour when I telnet in and disconnect. Does anyone have a better idea than resource limits? Anyone using parallel options (not server) or partitioning on this configuration?
