Bob,

There is a patch available from Oracle that will allow you to upgrade the operating system and still run V 7.1 of Oracle. However, this is ONLY for porting purposes. They do not support it for any production use.

I would not rely on it for my production database, but it would let you upgrade the OS first, then the DB.

I have not tried it yet. My upgrade path is to set up a clone of the production environment and make my mistakes there. Once I have a "tested" plan, I'll do it to production.
