What is the best way to back up the Online Redo Log?



Should we force a log switch prior to a "tar"?  What happens if we are
in the middle of an archive when we force a log switch.  The oracle book
are quite ambiguious.



An example would appreciated.  I am running Oracle 8 on Solaris.
