I just called Oracle to find out how to connect to the 2nd instance.

But in order to create a 2nd instance and database, you can use the NT instance manager. This creates a database, too, so be careful. If you don't want the database to be created you have to use the oradim73 tool to create a ONLY a new instance. It's in the getting started manual that came with Oracle for NT.

If use the NT instance manager and successfully create the 2nd instance and database, Oracle told me (I called support) to do the following.

Assuming the 1st instance and database are running, go to ms prompt
c:> set oracle_sid=second
goto svrmgr23
svrmgr> connect internal/password
It will say connected to idle instance.
svrmgr> startup
This should start up the 2nd instance according to the current oarcle_sid looking at the init[sid].ora file. Now both instances and databases should be open.

BUT.. I'm still having problems connecting to the 2nd one. I have to call them back soon.

Hope this helps some,

Jackie Marino
