Network computing, the origins before Ellison

Before there was a Larry Ellison or a Scott McNealy, there was Kenneth Olsen, founder and former CEO of Digital Computers. Olsen thinks that personal computers are wreaking havoc in businesses, that companies are floundering in a sea of excess computing power which is very similar to what Ellison himself has proposed. In his quest to pursue a more simple model for doing computing through technology came Olsen's idea for the network computer. He discusses how he intends to apply this to the business model at Fortune Online, with whom I work:
