Steve,
To be of any real service to you, we need more information.
Whats the second machine for? clustering, parallel server, test server, fail
over, cold spare, hot spare?
What kind of application is this database server going to support? (OLTP,
OLAP)? Will it be query intensive, or update intensive?
In general:
Redo logs and Archive log will benefit from being Raid0+1. Raid5 has a write
penalty.
Actually, why don't I point you to my sources:
- Oracle Support, MetaLink, http://support.oracle.com/ requires registration.
cursor over server, then click oracle server enterprise edition, then click
microsoft, then scroll down to Technical Bulletins and click, click
again on Windows NT. this is the straight forward approach.
- Optimal Database File Distribution Across N Disks, Oracle Magazine,
http://www.oramag.com/archives/15DBA.html
There are several good articles in both these sites. Start reading... form
your own opinion.
