Ummm,

As to your suggestion 1:

Since Oracle is already outselling SQL Server on NT why should they cut their price? Apparently the Oracle marketing strategy - which is extremely successful --is to sell for more than anyone else and then find customers who believe that if something sells for more it is worth more. Of course when your business depends on your RDBMS you don't mind paying more in order to get the support you need to keep you in business when things go wrong.

As to your suggestion 2:

I too, would like to see Oracle available on Linux, but given the differences in Linux flavors and the fact that Linux is free it probably won't happen. Again, Oracle is a premium product. Perhaps they feel it would besmirch their reputation to be associated with inexpensive operating systems.
