You can operate two different server versions. I'm managing a 7.3.4 and 7.1.6 instance on an RS/6000.

The limitations are

1. Available memory
2. Disk space
3. Increased CPU overhead

My instances are installed in

$ORACLE_BASE/product/7.3.4

and
$ORACLE_BASE/product/7.1.6

when administering the 7.3.4 I make sure that $ORACLE_HOME is set to $ORACLE_BASE/product/7.3.4 and the ORACLE_SID is set.

Also unset TWO_TASK

When administering the 7.1.6 database similar measures are performed.

The Forms 3.0 are shipped with 7.1.6 - 7.2.2.3 so they reside in that oracle home. Users logging in to use Forms 3.0 get a default ORACLE_HOME pointing to the 7.1.6 directory and TWO_TASK is set to ORACLE_SID.

Developer 2000 is similarly treated

Hope this helps. Received on Thu Mar 05 1998 - 00:00:00 CST
