JDBC Connect to Oracle8 fails

I recently updated SQL*Net on the Oracle8 Server for NT 4.0 (Intel, not Alpha) here to 8.0.3.0.4 to eliminate the "No data to read on socket" error. Now, when I attempt to connect, the applet just hangs and does not give any sort of response (Exceptions or otherwise). Has this happened to anybody, and if so, what's the fix?
