Here are some additional questions about some Oracle features I don't
clearly understand:
- Is "NUMBER" the only available numeric datatype? I also saw
something like "FLOAT". Does this type really exist in Oracle? Should
it be used in certain cases, or should it be avoided?
- What are:
*cluster
*index cluster
*clustering index?
Here is how I understood it:
* a cluster is two tables stored physically together, because they
have common columns;
* an index cluster is the index that must be used to index clustered
data;
Please correct me if I'm wrong or not complete!
- Does Oracle use dynamic SQL? Does it reexecute the SQL statements
each time a program is reexecuted?
- In DB2 there exists a tool called "EXPLAIN" that shows the path DB2
takes to execute a statement. Is there a similar tool with Oracle?
Thanks very much for any help available,
Anne-Marie
