Database market is saturated fully, there is no more room!!

Very soon, market will be flooded with database vendors. More competition means tougher time ahead for vendors, but it is better for customers. So there will rough road for oracle, sybase, informix in the
near future!!

Bigger market share will be ONLY on Intel based systems, 32 bit and intel 64bit cpu (upcoming merced chip). Today Intel platform is completely
dominated by LINUX. The main operating systems for databases in this area will be -

  1. Linux - Awarded best network operating system beating the NT, SCO. It is the fastest OS on the intel platform today. In performance tests (multi-processors) it scaled better than NT (see article on redhat site).
  2. NT - Because of marketing muscle power of M$. (technically a bad OS compared to LINUX (unix)). NT is specially made by M$ where in ONLY MS SQL server will run very efficiently and others like oracle, sybase WILL NOT perform well. (I hope you got the idea - here is a simple code /** A intentional time delay bomb on sybase, oracle on NT */ if ( DBSERVER != 'MSSQLSERVER') { for (ii = 0; ii < 1000; i++) { ; /* semi-colon a empty command - time delay */ } } Something like this embedded in the NT OS will really mess up the performance of sybase, oracle, informix on NT!!
