Disappearing tablespaces

Can anyone tell me the purpose of the .RES files located in the subdirectories in $ORACLE_HOME/svrmgr/admin/resource? I mysteriously lost some data files and when I checked the alert file, I found some "drop tablespace" commands in it that no one apparently type in. When I grep'ed for the commands, I found them in the mam.res files in the subdirectories indicated above. Basically, I'm trying to figure out if there's some way that Oracle trashed my database. Any help would be appreciated. By the way, I'm running 7.3.2.3 on HP-UX 10.20.
