I have to disagree with this statement about Oracle on NT being a slow process. I ran Oracle on NT for about a year before switch to Unix. The performance was as good as dedicated the DBA was. Of course the database installed did not have great performance, but either does Sql Server. After taking the role that a DBA should play, and not much work at it the server ran great.

The reason for the switch to Unix was because the user count of the database is planned to increase greatly - which is a problem with NT not Oracle on NT. I will but a well tuned Oracle Query against a well tuned SQL Server query anyday.

I would recommend that you go to Unix because NT is still not a very stable platform, and I do not have much hopes for 5.0. I would also recommend that you get Oracle Support, not for tuning purposes, but for trouble shooting - they have excellent technical support, and not high school students helping you out.

If you need any assistance, please do not hesitate to call on me. I love to work in Oracle!!!

Thanks,
Bryan Lenihan
