One thing you gotta remember about all this stuff is, it's all evolving right in front of us, while we're trying somehow to deliver reliable applications with it and make money doing it (so we can play tennis!!). And it's very interesting to see how the different companies are approaching it. Contrast MFC with Borland C++Builder or Delphi, for example.

There are, of course, pundits who proclaim that [their flavor of] Object Oriented Programming (oops...) is All That You Need To Know. But if you look closely, these people are talking to the most senior veep they can find (not you), and it looks like they have an ad for books and seminars in their hands.
