# columns per table = 1000

# tablespaces = 2 billion

# datafiles per tablespace = 1022

database size limit = 512 PB (peta-bytes)

By these definitions and my experience (using 8 for almost 9 months), you have a small database. Have you tuned your database instance for your platform (i.e. set init.ora parms, separated tables and indexes on different drives via different tablespaces -- and hundreds of other techniques too may to name) and tuned your application design (e.g. partitioned large tables, local vs. global indexes, bitmap vs. btree indexes, etc -- again too many to list)?
