Sounds like SQL*Net 1.x to me.

As far as I remember (may be wrong!), SQL*Net 1.x uses port #1525, and you would expect an entry in /etc/services like

orasrv 1525/tcp

somewhere in your system startup scripts, I'd expect to see a "tcpctl start" command.

But then again, if you're running SQL*Net 2.x, then the above wouldn't matter to you anyway ? :-)
