IIRC we got this one time when oracle couldn't open a datafile. Don't ask me why it says deadlock error - I haven't a clue. Check the trace and/or alert.log file and I think it will tell you the real problem. Probably has to do with the filename and/or permissions on the new disk. Make sure the db was shutdown cleanly when you did the copy, also.
