pl/sql generating email message?

Is it possible and does anyone have an example of generating an email message from within a package/stored procedure? Ideally I would like to create a module that handles the createing and sending of e-mail to our novell ("groupwise") system. This would be great for notes to the appropriate users on nightly processes etc....we're running Oracle 7.3 on a unix box. Network is novell 4.0? with groupwise as the mail carrier.
