Eric,

You can't make an IPC connection from a SQL*Net 2.X client, such as Designer/2000 to an Oracle8 database. Make sure that your Net8 listener is configured correctly (%ORACLE_HOME%\net80\admin\listener.ora) and running. Next, add an entry for your Oracle8 database to your SQL*Net 2.X tnsnames.ora file (%ORACLE_HOME\network\admin\tnsnames.ora). Login using username, password, and the tns entry.
