beginner Oracle OCI Unix .so question

Hi
I have inherited a small SQL problem that was not correctly solved. I am new to Oracle SQL and rusty with my Sun Solaris.

I have made a Netscape server plugin (C/C++) to serve simple registration forms. I am attempting simple OCI function calls to our 7.3.3 Oracle SQL server. I do not have my code properly configured to load the Oracle shared library (.so) file. I get a runtime error when my code tries to call the Oracle olog() and ologof() (login & logout) functions. The person that preceded me did not seem to leave a full set of Oracle documentation... A nudge in the right direction, or a simple example in what must by now be a very well worn solution would be greatly appreciated.
